Benders

Trick or Treat

CB climbed back down the ladder as JohnE unhinged the door. Placing the dagger in place, JohnE was able to give the pommel a couple of smacks, knocking the pins out. The pins clattered to the floor and rolled away a bit. The Benders placed the door over the hole and then looked around. What now?

CB saw Lord Pedraig walking along the west wall. He was looking over the edge as he walked, probably keeping pace with that half of the skeletons. There were guards on the south wall doing the same thing. It looked like the skeletons were going to come back together at the southwest corner of the keep.

CB yelled at Pedraig as she closed in on the house. She let him know about the breach. He immediately yelled for some of his militia to converge on the little house. He was pointing around at who he wanted to go because all of his militia (if you want to call ten part-timers a militia). Four guards started making their way toward ladders to come down into the keep.

The Benders could hear Pedraig yelling at a couple more guards to get back to their posts. They were all following the skeletons on their march even though there didn’t seem to be anything the skeletons could do until they got to the tunnel. Everyone on the wall was just an observer to the battle that was about to commence.

The four guards came running to the house with swords drawn but there was no more room inside for them. The clicking of the skeletal march seemed to fade away as if the skeletons had continued on past the keep, like it had just been an obstacle in the way of their morning march. Everything seemed to go quiet except for the heavy breathing of the guards that had just sprinted to the cottage.

Then the clicking could be heard echoing on the other side of the door that was lying on the floor. Faster this time, like the skeletons were running now.

Something thudded into the door.

Comments

Option one, hold down the door while some of us haul the bed back over and rest one or two of its legs on the door to hold it down.

Option two, whip off the door and smash the things one at a time as they try and come up into the room.

Option one won’t hold them forever, so I’d lean towards option two since we’re all here and ready and have backup.

Trick or Treat

Option one works for me. So does burning down the house around the foul undead things.

Trick or Treat

“What about finding the other end of the tunnel and attacking them from both sides?” Ice asked, taking quite well to his role in this world.

Trick or Treat

“Good plan, Ice… Take JohnE with you: he’s practically designed to smash skeltons! We’ll hold them off here: put the bed on the door to hold it down better. That should buy us enough time to surround them. JohnE: fire your gun when you engage so we know to begin our attack. Take backup if you need it…”

I’ll grab the bed, and (hopefully) with some help place the legs down on the door to brace it. I’ll sit on the bed to add some extra weight… and keep an eye on the door for any cracks.

Trick or Treat

CB will look for other things to weigh the door down – a cask of water or bags of feed or sand, or … something, and something fast.

Trick or Treat

I follow Ice out the door, gun in hand.

Trick or Treat

I’ll jump on top of the bed as well, adding my considerable mass to help hold it down.

Trick or Treat

No more monkeys jumping on the bed.

CB was unable to find anything heavy in the cottage.

The thudding continued and as it continued, the sound of splintering was added. Thud, splinter. Thud, splinter.

JohnE and Ice ran back out of the house and up the nearest ladder. Ice hang over the edge of the wall and dropped to the ground below. JohnE just jumped off the wall. Show off.

They looked down the hill a bit. The entrance to the cave was obvious. Not that they could actually see it from here because there were a couple of large boulders blocking their view but the 10 skeletons standing in a half circle were a dead giveaway.

Trick or Treat

Looks like we’ve got them right where they want us. Don’t die out there.

How big was the hole in the floor? I still have one stick of dynamite left…. If it could be thrown down the hole to explode in a confined space, the results could be useful. Might even cause a cave-in.

Other than that, we could take the bed off and let them finish bashing through the door and taken them apart as they try to come in. That might bring more of them into the tunnel so that Ice and JohnE can get close enough to pin them inside the tunnel.

Trick or Treat

CB will look outside the cottage for more things (ANYTHING!) to block the tunnel. She will ask for help from some of the brawny militia running about the place.

Trick or Treat

My plan was to cast “Mending” on the door to hold it together until we hear JohnE fire his weapon…

After that, yes, I think dynamite down the tunnel is a good idea ;-)

Trick or Treat

In fact, I think I’ll cast “Mending” right now…

Trick or Treat

while the odd powers people are doing their thing, I take my handy mace out and wait for anything to poke it’s bones thru a hole so I can try, and I mean TRY, to smash it!

Trick or Treat

How close are we? Are they looking in our direction? Can we get over the cave top or…

Trick or Treat

They are in semi circle facing along the hill and down the hill. You might be able to approach undetected staight down the hill and over the boulders.

Trick or Treat

Then that is the way I will approach. Move silently:10. Hopefully that was me blundering into a boulder and knocking it down on all of the skeletons.

Trick or Treat

crickets chirping :)

Trick or Treat

I have to get my wife some lunch and then we’ll move ahead.
