Benders

Inseptile? Repsect?

The Benders are able to put distance between them and the pink slime. Ice takes them back to the T intersection and goes down the other branch. The passage goes about 100 feet and looks to open into a room. However, Ice stops before entering the room. Just ahead of him is a 5 × 5 × 10 pit, which looks to have been roughly dug to block part of the passageway. At the bottom of the pit are pieces of what may have been a thin flagstone to cover the pit. Pieces of the flagstone are resting on and around the unmoving body of some kind of lizard which looks to have six legs.

Kitty corner from the Benders, there is an exit from the cavern which continues to the south.

“Hmmm, heya, Bex, JohnE?” Ice turned to his friends. “Any idea what that thing is? Perhaps you guys came across some book on local fauna sometime back?” The knight then peered more closely at the lizard-thing, being careful not to fall into the pit.

“I may be able to make it across, given a running start. What do you guys think? Some rope would be handy as well.”

;;; Correction: 5 × 5 × 10 feet deep. That leaves room around the edges to walk around.

“Ummm, maybe we should leave those holes alone. I wouldn’t want to think of what other nasties this place is hiding…” Ice said.

I suspect a trap… maybe the ledge around the pit is rigged to slip us into the lizard’s lair. It’s probably best to tie a rope around somebody’s waist before they try to inch around the pit, have 2-3 of us at the ready to pull them back in the event of a slip-up, the rest of us ready to kill the lizard. I have “Rope” on my equipment sheet:

Or, just pelt the poor thing with bows until it’s dead… CB can pick up rubble and sling it down on the lizard’s head for the next 20 rounds and kill it ;-)

The komodo ant is so unmoving that after watching it for a bit, you suspect that it is already dead but as a quick test, CB slings up a piece of garbage rock and zips it down. It bounces off the silvery exoskeleton and the creepy thing doesn’t even flinch.

Ick, an ANT?!

Probably best to go slow and safe. You guys may lower Ice in.

Could someone check the ceiling first, though? I’ve a nasty feeling…

Inseptile? Repsect?

I’ll do a check of the area “structurally” looking for oddities (traps)…21 is the roll.

Inseptile? Repsect?

The very edges of the pit might crumble but it doesn’t look like anything special was done to create some trap around the pit.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Tie up Ice and brace myself with rope in hand.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Ahhh, and when I say tie up, I mean around his waist, not his hands and feet. Unless we are using him for fishing in the pit?

Inseptile? Repsect?

or… it could be an UNDEAD komodo ant! waiting to pinch us from behind! bad necromancer!

Inseptile? Repsect?

Ice is easily lowered into the pit. The komodo ant never moves, even when nudged with a boot. The pieces scattered about are made out of some kind of plaster etched to look like stone. There doesn’t appear to be anything else in the pit of interest.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Alrighty.

Taking a 10 to climb up towards the opposite end of the pit.

Inseptile? Repsect?

just as a precaution I’m going to pointedly ignore Ice’s ascent and keep an eye out around us.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Ice makes it back out of the pit without incident.

What now?

Inseptile? Repsect?

Is there anything around with which Ice could attach to rope to? If there isn’t any, Ice will just use himself as an anchor to help pull the others out of the pit after they CAREFULLY lower themselves in. One by one, of course. I assume 10 ft isn’t too much?

Ladies first. Linora and CB, if you please. ;)

Everybody makes it to the other side of the pit without any problems. This room looks to be empty but there are some small holes in the walls near the floors plus the exit in the southwest corner. The holes are too small for anything human size to fit through.

Inseptile? Repsect?

guys, should I shine my flashlight done the holes real quick to see what is in there? might they be tunnels for the inseptile? Don’t need to be swarmed!

Inseptile? Repsect?

do they look inseptile sized, or smaller even then that?

This might be another dead end… I think Mark should look around, then Ice should lead on to the next weird thing.

Inseptile? Repsect?

The inseptile from the pit could probably fit through the holes.

Inseptile? Repsect?

I agree. Investigate the holes quickly with the flashlight. Not only do I not want us to get surprised by a read attack of inseptile kind, I want the way clear behind us for Rigel to catch up to us as easily as possible. If there’s anything visible in the holes I can probably Skywalker it out to examine more closely.

Inseptile? Repsect?

ok, I’ll turn on my flashlight and take a quick peek in the holes. Obviouly I will only leave it on for as short as possible (did I forget to tell you it’s a solar recharged flashlight?).

Inseptile? Repsect?

The closest one looks to go about 10 feet and possibly open up into some kind of room. Nothing can be seen in the room. The other two holes branch off into other tunnels.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Guys, I think it’s a nest. An ant nest. A GIANT ant nest. Let’s leave it alone and move on. o_0

Inseptile? Repsect?

agreed….move ’em out! But keep an eye towards the rear!

Inseptile? Repsect?

Ugh… agreed! Let’s leave and follow Ice.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Ice, need a d20 roll from you, please.

Inseptile? Repsect?

Dun dun dun. OK, hold on, will be sending the roll in a few minutes…

Inseptile? Repsect?

Got an 11.
